Psalm 124

Written By: carolmoye - Aug• 03•14

Psalm 124 is a psalm of collective praise for Israel’s deliverance from her enemies. You can read it here.

At first, I thought of making it an individual praise, but that wouldn’t fit the theme. Instead, it’s a psalm of praise for the deliverance of “my” people from the hands of Jim Crow. This is, of course, a first draft.

If it had not been for the Lord on our side
When the army of white knights rose against us
They would have completely devoured us
The torrents of hatred came up past our necks to drown us
It came up past our necks like raging waters
We thought we would be sucked under
We thought we were prey
Just knew their hatred would consume us
But we broke out of the trap
And made our way to freedom
Praise God!
All of our help comes from the Lord.
