Book Promotion

Written By: carolmoye - Jun• 15•13

I went to today’s meeting of the Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Writer’s Club. It was well worth the time. Today’s presenter was Michael Gunter, co-facilitator. He shared the things he is doing to promote his new book, and things he’s learned since publishing his first book.

He began by drawing two columns on the board. One was for the Internet Assault, the other for the Ground Assault.

Internet: You need a presence on the following: Facebook, Blog, Twitter, your own website, Author page(s), Linkedin. You should link your pages together. Michael shoots his blog posts to his Facebook author page, his Twitter account, etc.,

You should create a tangible press kit. It should include the following:

1. High quality single page bio which includes:

  • Links to your social media
  • Other contact info
  • Make sure it is printed on high quality paper

2. Book Sheet

  • High quality version of your cover
  • Quotes from readers
  • Info from the back of the book
  • Contact info
  • Store links

3. Press Release

  • Give content for article
  • Make cover of book into postcard
  • Consider using Vista Print
  • Include business card

4. Landing Page

(Basically a web page that has all the above information).

Place all items into glossy folder.

Suggested places to send to: Newspaper, radio, college you graduated from

Find your champions. Use them to help you get your postcards out or in other ways to help market your book..

You need endorsements, preferably by a high profile figure in your field. Be bold.

To summarize:

  1. Make it easy
  2. Be bold
  3. Be creative
